Bulk Billing Kids Dentist
At Warner Dental, eligible children can receive dental care that is bulk billed through Medicare under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). When a child is eligible and the treatment falls within the scheme, these services can be provided with no out-of-pocket cost to the family.
We welcome families from Warner, North Brisbane, and surrounding suburbs. This page explains how bulk billing works for children, who is eligible, and what is covered, so you can plan your child’s children’s dentistry with confidence.
A bulk billing kids dentist provides eligible dental services that are billed directly to Medicare, rather than to the parent. For children, this is done through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, a government program that funds basic and preventive dental care for eligible families.
When your child is eligible and the treatment is covered by the scheme, you are not charged directly for those services. This can make regular dental care more accessible during the years when a child’s teeth are still developing.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is designed to support children through the developmental years, when preventive care matters most. Eligible children can receive a capped amount of dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years. The cap is set by the Australian Government and is reviewed each year, so we confirm your child’s current available balance before treatment.
The funding can help cover common treatments such as:
The scheme focuses on early prevention and treatment, which can help reduce the likelihood of more serious dental problems later.
Not every child automatically qualifies, so it is worth checking eligibility before booking. Eligibility generally depends on:
You can check eligibility through your Medicare online account or the Medicare app, or you can ask us to help confirm your child’s status and remaining balance before the appointment. Eligibility is determined by Services Australia, and you can read the official criteria on the Child Dental Benefits Schedule page.
When visiting a Medicare dental provider under the CDBS, children may be able to access a range of essential treatments, including:
The scheme covers many general and preventive services, but it does not cover orthodontics, cosmetic dental work, or treatment provided in hospital. If a treatment falls outside the scheme, we will explain this and discuss your payment options before proceeding.
Children’s teeth can be vulnerable to decay because of dietary habits and developing brushing routines. Regular visits allow early intervention and preventive care, which can be more comfortable and straightforward than treating problems later.
Regular check-ups can help with:
Using CDBS funding allows many families to prioritise their child’s oral health without financial stress.
Getting started is simple:
Outcomes vary between patients, and all treatments carry some risk of complications, which your dentist will discuss with you.
If your child may be eligible for bulk billing under the CDBS, contact Warner Dental to confirm their balance and arrange a visit. Book an appointment or call (07) 3882 3200.

FAQs
It is a dentist who bills eligible children’s dental services directly to Medicare through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, so eligible families are not charged out of pocket for the covered treatment. The service must fall within the scheme, and the child must be eligible for that calendar year.
You can check through your Medicare online account via myGov, or through the Medicare app, where your child’s eligibility and remaining balance are shown. If you would prefer, our team can help confirm eligibility and balance before the appointment. Eligibility itself is decided by Services Australia.
Your child’s remaining balance is visible in your Medicare online account or the Medicare app. We can also check the available balance on your behalf before treatment so there are no surprises, since the benefit is capped over each two-year period.
If your child is eligible and has available balance, a check-up and other covered services can be bulk billed, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for those items. If your child is not eligible, or the balance is used up, or a treatment falls outside the scheme, normal fees apply and we will explain these in advance.
The scheme covers general and preventive care such as examinations, cleaning, X-rays, fillings, extractions, and fissure sealants. It does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic procedures, or any services provided in a hospital setting. Where a recommended treatment is outside the scheme, we discuss the options and costs with you first.
The CDBS is available to eligible children aged 0 to 17 years, provided they are eligible for at least one day in the calendar year and the other eligibility conditions are met. Your dentist can help you understand how this applies to your child.
Once the capped benefit is used up for the two-year period, further treatment during that period is charged as normal, and a new balance becomes available in the next eligibility period if your child still qualifies. We always confirm the remaining balance before treatment and talk through payment options if needed.
